On September 1st, 2020, Kill Your Television Theatre, along with other performing arts organizations and independent artists in Edmonton, received an invitation to participate in the 35//50YEG initiative.

The 35//50YEG initiative calls for actionable and measurable commitment from professional arts organizations to represent our civic landscape within our companies. Specifically, this initiative is calling for a minimum 35% BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Colour) and 50% women or non-binary people in paid, professional positions by the 2024/25 theatre season.

Kill Your Television wholeheartedly supports the initiative to make our theatre community a more inclusive place for BIPOC, women and non-binary artists. We believe the representation of marginalized communities on and off stage matters and we are personally pledging a commitment to meet the requirements of the 35//50YEG initiative in our future artistic endeavors. In addition, Kill Your Television Theatre will include the LGBTQIA2+ community and people with disabilities as part of our formula of representation.

We are hopeful that this concerted effort amongst Edmonton arts organizations and individual artists, in participation with the 35//50YEG initiative, will help expand the ecology of our industry to be a more inclusive place representing the diverse population of our growing city.

With love and respect,

Nathan Cuckow and Kevin Sutley

Co-Artistic Directors of Kill Your Television Theatre
